Holi is one of the most popular Hindu festivals, celebrated in India/Bharata and other countries with Hindu populations. It is a festival of colours and joy, and is usually celebrated in late February or early March, on the full moon day in the Hindu month of Phalguna. The festival has several mythological and historical significances. The most popular story is about the demon king Hiranyakashipu, who was blessed with a boon that made him almost immortal. However, he became arrogant and ordered everyone to worship him as a god. His own son Prahlada, who was a devotee of Lord Vishnu, refused to do so, which made Hiranyakashipu angry. He ordered his sister Holika to take Prahlada into a fire, but Lord Vishnu protected Prahlada and Holika was burnt to death.
